Another nice idea from Penguin - a series of classic titles with “draw them yourself” blank covers, and a web-based competition to boot.
Best idea we’ve had so far? A very ornate, pen and ink drawing on the Dostoyevsky of some beautiful letterforms spelling out “I’m a pretentious twat” (in Russian).
I’ve built a website where you can quite literally judge a book by its cover at www.judgeabookbyitscover.co.uk which you might be interested in. Its a bit unstable and wasn’t designed to be that big a website, just an idea I had that I built and have left alone really, but this blog post reminded me of it. It never took off, I think partly because you can’t contribute covers to it, a mistake I’ve learned from.
