Show me the way to Amarillo. Or Belgium.

Quietly launched last week, but now shuffling into a centre-stage position, is the wonderful travel.dk.com from Poke for Dorling Kindersley.
All the usual suspects are there - content browsing, integrated booking with affiliates (with many more partners to come), advertising partners, user-submitted content and comments and ratings. I think we’ve managed to do all of those […]

The art of consumption

I love photo-mosaics. I find them fascinating.
Some nice photography by Chris Jordan that uses them as info-graphics to highlight American consumptive behaviour.
Also check out his earlier portraits of mass consumption for lots of beautiful pictures of rubbish.

Never mind the bollocks

I’m still reeling from the weekend. I have finally seen Paul Simonon play bass. And then some. Let me explain.
I caught the opening night of the The Good, The Bad & The Queen tour at the Trinity in Bristol on Saturday night (you can learn more about the band in my earlier post if you […]

My five things you never knew (or wanted to) …

My turn to fess up, having been tagged by Claire in this season’s blog meme.
1. Tom is not my real name.
OK, i’m easing into this with an gentle one. Many of you will know this already, but I am in fact a Sam rather than a Tom according to my birth certificate, with Tom […]

This Monkey’s (Not) Gone To Heaven

OK, i’m a bit biased as I know the guys behind this, but nonetheless it’s a lovely piece of work from Mother.
Take one client - PG Tips - most famous for it’s advertising with chimps back in the days before the letters P and C were married.
Take one clever piece if IP that you developed […]

Magnum Podcasts

Just discovered that Magnum have a video podcast channel that features the work of the agency’s photographers, either set to music or as part of mini-documentaries about the subject matter. You need to use iTunes to watch the latest episodes, but the back catalogue is available in browser for the iPodly challenged.
Nicely done and […]

All that you can’t leave behind

Nice collection of photographs of empty car parks. Beguiling. Reminds me of Matt Siber’s Floating Logo’s and Untitled projects for the way it makes you looks at what’s not there, rather than what is.

iHype

It’s that time of year again. Macworld touches down in six days time - with the (now) traditional January blessing of the Mac faithful by his holiness the Steve.
This year looks like being a pivotal one for Apple as they attempt to “do an iTunes” on the TV and Movie industries - only this […]

Flickr Toys

Hit and miss collection of Flickr Toys - great for wasting time avoiding the realisation that you’ve done no Christmas shopping yet. The Hockney-iser is particularly addictive when fed the right image. None of them a patch on Moo Cards tho’ …
Also worth mentioning, is XPapr. Grand Union’s nicely-done web 2.0 pastiche Christmas present to […]

Choc’s Away

Direct from New York, a box of chocs from my favourite vendor of legal Endorphin highs.
These are from the Italian Collection and mix chocolate with Olive Oil, Taleggio cheese (really), Tuscan Fennel Pollen (whatev-a), Balsamic Vinegar and Sicilian Sea Salt. Very poncy, and I dare not even think of the carbon footprint.
Never had […]
